The 2010 IIF Annual Membership Meeting was held from Friday, October 8 through Sunday, October 10 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC.

A very large gathering of the world’s leading bankers and investors attended our 2010 IIF Annual Membership Meeting. The program began on Friday, October 8 with presentations from the IIF senior staff followed by a special ASEAN session and a luncheon, including a keynote address by The Honorable Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz, Governor of the Bank Negara Malaysia.

The program resumed in the afternoon with two parallel sessions: a special regulatory briefing and a session entitled, “The Great Debate: India vs. China”, which featured a lively debate by regional experts and a discussion on the state of play in these two dynamic economies. The day’s program ended with a keynote address by Dr. Olli Rehn, Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs of the European Commission.

Saturday, October 9 opened with a Roundtable Discussion on “The New Shape of the Financial Industry.” The afternoon included a keynote address by His Excellency Mr. George Papaconstantinou, Minister of Economy and Finance of Greece, and a panel discussion on the implications of new bank capital and liquidity requirements.

The Opening Reception and Dinner on Saturday, October 9 featured a keynote address by His Excellency Mr. Álvaro Uribe Vélez, Former President of the Republic of Colombia. Also, The Honorable Mr. Nicholas F. Brady and The Honorable Mr. Paul A. Volcker paid special tribute to Mr. William Rhodes on the occasion of his retirement.

Sunday’s plenary sessions began with the Managing Director’s remarks followed by keynote addresses from Mr. William Dudley, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and The Honorable Dr. Patrick Honohan, Governor of the Central Bank & Financial Services Authority of Ireland. The program continued with discussions on the impact of insurance regulatory changes on financial markets. The meeting concluded with a Closing Luncheon and keynote address by a Dr. Zhou Xiaochuan, Governor of the People’s Bank of China.
