The 2012 IIF Executive Program on Risk Management: Risk Management Revisited in a Volatile Environment was offered in cooperation with Standard Chartered during November 5-8 in London, United Kingdom.

Despite having passed through a major financial crisis, new turmoil continues to swirl in the horizon and endangers the path to recovery. Much has changed. This four-day program built on the critical need for risk officers to better anticipate where risk is coming from—so risk management is no longer reactive, but is instead much more predictive and proactive.

This program was not only targeted to senior risk officers, but also to executives overseeing strategy of key businesses. It was designed to provide in a concise format all the issues that the senior level audience must address in this “new normal” environment to have effective oversight of their respective business responsibilities.

Very interactive roundtable discussions with all the session speakers, along with the moderator, underpinned the program, allowing the audience-driven discussions to uncover further insights from fellow participants.

The program started with a broad overview of the new volatile environment through which the banks must now navigate. After building the foundation that risk is now intertwined in all decision-making, the program focused quickly on the key risk management issues that affect the banks’ core businesses: strategy, operating and revenue models, and governance. It then moved to the next level, focusing on issues that CROs must maintain close watch over, given their potential to pose serious risk on the bank’s profitability.

Of unique advantage, this program assembled speakers that are highly seasoned practitioners from leading global financial institutions. Simply put, the discussions were very practical focused.

From this program, participants gained a deep understanding of:

  • Strategic insights for bank executives who are facing a new environment of growing volatility and business uncertainties

  • Effective governance, including structural and organizational, to optimally balance risk with business decision-making

  • Insights on the new regulatory developments to leverage on for strategic decision-making.
