2012 IIF Annual Membership Meeting
The 2012 IIF Annual Membership Meeting was held October 11-13 at the Palace Hotel Tokyo in Tokyo, Japan and marked the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the IIF. We were pleased to have the support of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Mizuho Financial Group, Inc., and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Inc. as the Lead Sponsors for the meeting and the strong support of the government of Japan in staging the first-ever full IIF Membership Meeting in Japan.
The meeting was attended by an influential audience from throughout the global financial community, including many of the world’s leading bankers, policymakers, and investors. The program agenda was designed to appeal to our international membership while also having sessions focusing on the Asia/Pacific region and Japan in particular. We were delighted to welcome keynote addresses from U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner, Japanese Finance Minister Koriki Jojima, OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría, Italian Minister of Economy and Finance Vittorio Grilli, Bank of Japan Governor Masaaki Shirakawa, and Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz.
2012 IIF Spring Membership Meeting
June 8, 2012 — The 2012 IIF Spring Membership Meeting was held at the Tivoli Congress Center in Copenhagen, Denmark. Wednesday’s program featured special briefing sessions on risk management and governance, regulatory oversight and consequences for capital markets, and a strengthened framework for sovereign debt crises resolution. Wednesday also included our IIF economic presentations and featured our opening reception and dinner with a special tribute to Dr. Josef Ackermann.
Thursday’s program included addresses from the IIF Managing Director and Chairman and keynote addresses by Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt, Polish Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski, and European Commissioner Michel Barnier. The program featured a special Nordic finance minister session and discussions on the global outlook and risks, the impact of the new regulatory regime, and the new challenges facing Europe. The evening featured a reception and dinner with a keynote address from former Greek Prime Minister Lucas Papademos.

2011 IIF Annual Membership Meeting
September 25, 2011 — The 2011 IIF Annual Membership Meeting was held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, D.C. Friday’s program featured a special session on the future of housing finance, resolution and stability, and the role of ratings followed by a welcoming reception.
Saturday’s program included IIF senior staff presentations and a keynote address by German Finance Minister, His Excellency Dr. Wolfgang Schäuble. The program continued in the afternoon with a special session on the regional and global challenges of the changing face of the Middle East and a discussion on the turbulent macroeconomic outlook. The evening featured our opening dinner and special tribute to The Honorable Jean-Claude Trichet.
Sunday’s program included discussions on systemic stability and global financial firms and fiscal management in mature economies. The program also featured keynote addresses by Governor of the Bank of Canada and Chairman of the FSB, The Honorable Dr. Mark Carney; Chairman of the UK Independent Commission on Banking, Sir John Vickers; and Irish Finance Minister, His Excellency Mr. Michael Noonan. The Meeting concluded with a closing luncheon featuring a keynote address by former Greek Prime Minister and Finance Minister, His Excellency Mr. Evangelos Venizelos.
2011 IIF Spring Membership Meeting
March 5, 2011 — The 2011 IIF Spring Membership Meeting was held at the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi, India. Wednesday’s program featured a special Inside India session, a regulatory briefing, and a Keynote Address by The Honorable C. Rangarajan, Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, India followed by a Welcoming Reception.
Thursday’s sessions featured IIF senior staff presentations, a roundtable discussion and special briefing, and Keynote Addresses by The Honorable Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, India; The Honorable Duvvuri Subbarao, Reserve Bank of India. The Opening Dinner featured a Keynote Address by H.E. Yousef Hussin Kamal, Minister of Finance, State of Qatar.
Friday’s program continued with panel discussions and featured Keynote Addresses by H.E. Pranab Mukherjee, Finance Minister, India; Ambassador Thomas Pickering, Vice Chairman, Hills and Company; Mr. José Angel Gurria, Secretary-General, OECD; and Dr. Lael Brainard, Under Secretary for International Affairs, U.S. Department of the Treasury.
The Closing Dinner featured a Special Interview with Mr. Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries Ltd and Dr. Vikram Pandit, CEO, Citigroup Inc, and Mr. K.V. Kamath, Chairman of the Board, ICICI Bank Ltd.
2010 IIF Annual Membership Meeting
October 10, 2010 — The 2010 IIF Annual Membership Meeting took place at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C. The program began with IIF senior staff presentations followed by an ASEAN session, luncheon, and keynote address by The Honorable Zeti Akhtar Aziz, Governor of the Bank Negara Malaysia. The program continued with a regulatory briefing and debate on China and India and closed with a keynote address by Dr. Olli Rehn, Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs of the European Commission.
Saturday began with a roundtable session, a discussion on capital and liquidity requirements, and a keynote address by His Excellency George Papaconstantinou, Greek Minister of Economy and Finance. Saturday’s dinner featured a keynote address by His Excellency Álvaro Uribe Vélez, Former President of the Republic of Colombia, as well as a tribute to Mr. William Rhodes.
Sunday’s sessions included keynote addresses from Mr. William Dudley, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and The Honorable Patrick Honohan, Governor of the Central Bank & Financial Services Authority of Ireland. The program concluded with a luncheon and keynote address by Dr. Zhou Xiaochuan, Governor of the People’s Bank of China.
2010 IIF Spring Membership Meeting
June 11, 2010 — The 2010 IIF Spring Membership Meeting took place at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna, Austria. The event was an overwhelming success, bringing together senior executives, investors, policymakers, and key officials to discuss pressing issues in global finance.
The meeting began Wednesday, June 9 with a session addressing key regulatory reform issues, as well as a G-20 Roundtable Discussion and welcoming reception. The program continued on Thursday with presentations from the IIF economics team, and a Roundtable Discussion featuring keynote addresses by The Honorable Ewald Nowotny, Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Austria and Mr. George Soros, Chairman of the Soros Fund Management. Evening events included a dinner and keynote address by The Honorable Jean-Claude Trichet, President of the European Central Bank. The Friday program began with keynote addresses by His Excellency Josef Pröll, Minister of Finance of the Republic of Austria and Dr. Arnout Wellink, President, De Nederlandsche Bank NV and Chairman of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. His Excellency Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister, Republic of Hungary delivered a keynote address during the luncheon. The meeting concluded with a dinner and keynote address by His Excellency George A. Papandreou, Greek Prime Minister.
2009 IIF Annual Membership Meeting
October 4, 2009 — The 2009 IIF Annual Membership Meeting was held October 2-4 at the Swissôtel in Istanbul, Turkey. The event brought together a record attendance of senior executives from IIF member firms, investors, policymakers and key officials to discuss pressing issues in global finance.
The meeting began on Friday, October 2 with a special Roundtable discussion on Istanbul as a regional financial center and current issues facing emerging markets, including a keynote address by His Excellency Ali Babacan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State of the Republic of Turkey, followed by a welcome reception. The official program began on Saturday, October 3 with economic presentations from the IIF economics team. Saturday afternoon featured a discussion on global regulatory reform as well as keynote addresses by His Excellency Dr. Muhammad S. Al-Jasser, Governor of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency and His Excellency Jan Vincent Rostowski, Minister of Finance of the Republic of Poland. The evening’s festivities included a cocktail reception and opening dinner, featuring a keynote address from His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey.

2009 IIF Spring Membership Meeting
June 12, 2009 — We are pleased to announce the success of the 2009 IIF Spring Membership Meeting held June 10-12 at the China World Hotel in Beijing, China and co-hosted by the Bank of China.
The meeting began on Wednesday, June 10, with a special session on economic and financial conditions in China, followed by a welcome reception. The official program began on Thursday, June 11 with economic presentations from the IIF economic team. The evening’s festivities included a cocktail reception and opening dinner, featuring a keynote address from the Honorable Paul A. Volcker, Chairman, President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board (PERAB), former Chairman of the Board of Governors of the U.S. Federal Reserve System.
Friday morning included several panel discussions and special addresses on pressing issues in the world economy, including keynote addresses by Chairman Liu Mingkang of the China Banking Regulatory Commission, Mr. Jin Liqun, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, China Investment Corporation, and Mr. George Soros, Chairman of Soros Fund Management. We closed the evening with a keynote address from His Excellency Han Seung-soo, Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea.
2008 IIF Annual Membership Meeting
The 2008 IIF Annual Membership Meeting was held October 10-12 at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C. The event brought together more than 800 leading bankers representing IIF member banks and firms from around the world to discuss important and pressing issues in global finance.
The meeting began on Friday, October 10, with special briefings addressing the implementation of the final report of the IIF's Committee on Market Best Practices as well as investment in sub-Saharan Africa. Following the IIF Economic presentations on Saturday morning, participants heard from luncheon keynote speaker Dr. Jacob Frenkel, Vice Chairman, American International Group, Inc. (AIG) and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Group of Thirty (G30). The highlight of Saturday's Annual Meeting Reception and Dinner at the Smithsonian Museum of American Art and National Portrait Gallery, was a keynote address from Her Excellency Christine Lagarde, Minister for Economy, Industry and Employment, France.Sunday's program featured a keynote address from the Honorable Stefan Ingves, Chairman of the Executive Board and Governor, Sveriges Riksbank as well as two panel discussions focused on the current financial crisis.
2008 Spring Membership Meeting
March 20, 2008 — We are pleased to announce the success of the 2008 IIF Spring Membership Meeting held March 6-7 at the Copacabana Palace Hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The meeting began on Thursday, March 6, with Economic Presentations from the IIF Economic Team. That afternoon we held sessions on Ratings Issues and Prospects For Latin America: An OECD Report. The evening's festivities began at 7:00 p.m. with a cocktail reception, followed by the opening dinner, with a keynote address from Dr. JosÃ© Serra, Governor of the State of SaÃµ Paulo, Brazil.
Friday morning addressed key issues in the world economy as well as special sessions on Regulatory Issues and Emerging Markets Policy Issues. We offered a special session on Latin America, featuring discussants from both business and finance arenas. We closed the evening with a keynote address from Sir Howard Davies, Director, London School of Economics.
2007 25th Anniversary IIF Annual Membership Meeting
November 14, 2007 — This special event brought together IIF members from around the world to celebrate the important contributions the Institute has made to the stability of global financial systems in the past 25 years. The meeting also addressed the growing changes in global banking and finance as well as the challenges and opportunities that emerging market economies face.
