Dicky Peter Yip Becomes IIF Chief Representative for the Asia-Pacific Region Based in Beijing
Washington D.C., July 12, 2012 — The Institute of International Finance today announced that Dicky Peter Yip will become Chief Representative for the Asia-Pacific Region, effective August 1, 2012. Mr. Yip, born in Shanghai, China, was employed by HSBC for more than 45 years, serving in Hong Kong, London, China and San Francisco. He was awarded the MBE by the British Government in 1984 for his services to the community in Hong Kong.
The IIF, the global association of financial services firms, opened its first office outside of Washington DC in November, 2010 – the IIF Representative Office for the Asia-Pacific Region is located in Beijing. The first Chief Representative, Mr. Jun Ren, will be leaving the Institute to pursue other opportunities.

We are exceptionally fortunate that Dicky Yip, one of Asia’s most experienced international bankers, has agreed to become the IIF’s Asia-Pacific Chief Representative. His knowledge of the issues, the people and institutions that are at the forefront of Chinese and Asian finance today is extraordinary. We continue to deepen and broaden our work in China as well as across the region, with a rising number of IIF member institutions and a growing set of activities. I am certain that Dicky Yip will make an outstanding contribution as we advance our role in the region.”
Mr. Yip has served as Executive Vice President, Bank of Communications, headquartered in Shanghai, since May, 2005, while also serving as a General Manager, Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited. He joined HSBC in Hong Kong in 1965 and after serving in many positions he was appointed Chief Executive China Business based in Shanghai at the start of 2003, while also serving as a director of Bank of Shanghai, and as director of Ping An Insurance and Ping An Bank in China.
He is an associate member of the UK Chartered Institute of Bankers and holds an MBA from the University of Hong Kong and a CFP certificate issued by IFPHK. Mr. Yip was the recipient in 2000 of the Bronze Bauhinia Star award by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government. In June 2008, he was elected a member of Shanghai Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). He is also an Independent Director of Sun Hung Kai Properties Ltd. in Hong Kong, the Honorary Chairman of Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce China, and a member of Financial Planning Standards Council of China (FPSCC).
