President and CEO of The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Mr. Nobuyuki Hirano, appointed to the IIF Board of Directors

Washington D.C., October 17, 2012 — The Institute of International Finance, which is headquartered in Washington D.C, announced today the appointment of Mr. Nobuyuki Hirano, President and CEO of The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, to its Board of Directors. He assumed his current position in April 2012.

Mr. Hirano, who graduated from Kyoto University with a BA in Law, started his career in 1974 with Mitsubishi Bank. In the 1980s he was based in Brussels, where he was extensively involved in euro syndicated lending and public finance. In the early 1990s he returned to Tokyo to develop the bank’s overseas business strategies, focusing on Asian markets. In 1994 he moved to New York to head the bank’s corporate banking operations and in 1996 was appointed Chief Planning Officer for the Americas, after playing a key role in the merger with the Bank of Tokyo in 1996.

In June 2001 he was appointed a Non-Board Member Director of The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi (BTM), becoming a Director in October 2005 and subsequently Deputy President, with responsibility for strategy, finance, risk management, IT, and operations, in 2009. In 2010 was appointed to serve as a Board Director of Morgan Stanley. Mr. Hirano also served as Chairman of the Planning Committee of Japanese Bankers’ Association during 2009-2010.

Mr. Hirano joins the IIF Board of Directors following the resignation of Mr. Nobuo Kuroyanagi, a Senior Advisor at Bank at Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, and formerly President and Chief Executive Officer of Mitsubishi Tokyo Financial Group Inc., the holding company of Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation.

Vice-Chairmen of the IIF Board are Mr. Roberto Setubal, President and CEO of Itau Unibanco S/A and Vice Chairman of the Board of Itau Unibanco Holding S/A; Mr. Walter Kielholz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Swiss Re Ltd; Mr. Rick Waugh, President and Chief Executive Officer of Scotiabank; and Mr. Marcus Wallenberg, who is also IIF Treasurer and Chairman of the Board of SEB. The Managing Director of the IIF is Mr. Charles Dallara.
