Future Leaders Group

The IIF Future Leaders Group was formed in 2014 by IIF's Board of Directors to recognize emerging leaders of the financial industry. Participants are nominated by their firms based on records of achievement, potential, and ability to become a leader in global finance.

Participants attend two events during their year as an IIF Future Leader, and each meeting is designed to introduce them to global topics driving the future of the industry. IIF Future Leaders are provided resources and encouraged to think beyond their day-to-day responsibilities, as well as engage in key issues they may confront as future industry leaders.

Who can participate in the program?

Only IIF members can nominate someone to participate in the annual program. Every August, the IIF invites the Board of Directors, EMAC members, and a select group of member firms to nominate a participant for the upcoming year.

What is the objective of the IIF Future Leaders Group

This program is designed to introduce participants to the big ideas and topics that will drive the future of the industry. We hope this will spur participants to think beyond their day-to-day responsibilities and engage on key issues they may confront as future industry leaders. We also hope individuals will develop ties with other participants from different regions and backgrounds and create a new global network of colleagues and friends.

What are the criteria for nomination?

While there is not a specific age restriction, we recommend nominating a candidate aged 40 or under or currently in a mid to senior-level position who has a track record of achievement within their company, has demonstrated leadership capabilities and, in the nominator’s view, has the potential to become a leader in global finance. Nominees may represent any of a member firm’s business units or corporate functions.

Can more than one person from my firm be nominated?

We ask for only one nominee from each institution to ensure a diverse group of participants.

What is the cost of the program?

The cost of the program is determined annually. For in-person events, we request member firms pay for travel costs (airfare, hotels etc.) to those meetings. Any other potential registration fees for IIF events, like the Annual Membership Meeting, will be waived for the current class members.

What is expected from the selected candidate?

Nominees are expected to attend both in-person events and will be asked to attend as many virtual events as possible to get the most value out of the program. These may include meet-and-greet sessions to get to know other class members, events focused on topics crucial to the future of the industry, Leadership Town Halls, and professional development activities. In addition to the lineup of exclusive Future Leaders activities and events, Future Leaders are invited to attend other IIF regional and global events, although attendance is entirely optional.

What happens upon completion of the program?

Participants become official members of the Future Leaders Group Alumni Network. As an alum, Future Leaders continue to receive benefits including an invitation to join an online forum of alums on LinkedIn, discounted registration fees to the IIF’s paid events (such as the Annual Membership Meeting), and access to exclusive in-person regional and virtual events.
