DataTalk - Briefing Note 33 – Payments, E-Commerce and Data

The November edition of DataTalk explored the transformative interplay between payments, e-commerce, and data in driving innovation within the digital economy. By integrating data-driven solutions, these ecosystems are enhancing personalization, streamlining processes, and strengthening fraud detection, paving the way for seamless and secure payment experiences. The integration of financial and non-financial data is fostering interoperability and value creation, although challenges around data quality and privacy persist. Regulatory frameworks significantly influence innovation and competition, requiring clarity and balance between compliance and progress. Efforts to address these challenges include improving data infrastructure, adopting agile models, and enhancing governance to unlock the full potential of data and accelerate advancements in payments and e-commerce. This briefing note summarizes the discussion held on November 20, 2024, respecting the forum's adherence to the Chatham House Rule and does not represent the official position of the IIF or its membership.

We look forward to continuing the DataTalk series next year. This series gathers thought leaders and experts sharing their insights and views, as well as a dialogue with member firms about implications for the financial services industry and new developments on the policy front.
